Abhinav Iyer Runner-Up in APT Taipei PC 2024 High Roller Double Stack


Abhinav Iyer has again brought the Indian poker community into the limelight, this time at the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024. While the tournament is producing several winners and ITM finishes, Iyer achieved the incredible feat of finishing as runner-up in Event # 32, High Roller—Double Stack

Abhinav Iyer grabbed a prize money of TWD 1,411,000 (~₹37,07,166). Finishing at the top was Peter Kiem of the USA, who took home TWD 2,089,880 (~₹54,90,810). With Iyer so close to clinching the whole deal, he has given those railing him a bittersweet moment, where they will be happy that he finished at the 2nd spot but lost the top place by only a whisker. Iyer is the only Indian contingent that ended up on the list of cash-outs for this particular event.

The event was staunchly fought, with 182 entries and a prize pool of TWD 2.1 Million. A total of 27 players received payouts, and Kiyoung Kim of South Korea took the lowest payout, TWD 94,000.

Iyer is one of the finest Indian poker players and has made the country proud several times, including bringing home a whopping ~₹3.87 Crore and winning India’s first solo WSOP Gold Bracelet. So, this is just another achievement for the poker pro who has been raking in the big ones for a while now. According to Hendonmob, his total live earnings at the time of writing this article were $1,888,026.

Iyer is one of the few Indians who survived Day 1 of the Main Event Flight 1A, along with Karan Gupta mand Dhaval Mudgal. Plenty of Indians have been running in ITM finishes at this APT series. Earlier in the series, Dhaval Mudgal took home TWD 17,000 at the Mystery Bounty Hunter event. Later, Saransh  Garg clinched 3rd place in event #18 Tick Tock BOOM – Super Hold’em. Again, with so many Indians ending up in ITM at such prestigious events, the game is bound to get more recognition in the country and be an impetus to other new players looking for those big numbers.

The APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 will run till 7th October 2024. The events are being hosted at two prime locations in Taipei, the Asia Poker Arena and the Chinese Mahjong LeagueThis APT series has 114 events, with some of the big probable wins being the TWD 50K buy-in Main Event, which promises a life-changing TWD 65 Million GTD (~$2 Million) guaranteed prize pool. Some other events that are the highlights are the TWD 300,000 Super High Roller and the TWD 110,000 High Roller: both boasting impressive prize pools.
