Catching Up With IPC Megastacks TD Dexter Mercado

The biggest poker festival in the country that grinders are looking forward to eagerly is the India Poker Championship Megastacks May 2022 series. Known for its grandeur and extravagance, the return of this series will have world-acclaimed tournament director (TD) Dexter Mercado lay his rules on the felts of Casino Vegas. He started as a TD in 2008-2009 and works in the Philippines. 

Mercado is not new to IPC as he has been the TD in the past three editions of the IPC. Acclaimed TD Lloyd Fontillas introduced him as a TD, and since then, he has been one of the most sought TDs in Asia. We got in touch with Mercado to know more about what he expects at the upcoming edition of IPC. 

You have been the tournament director for IPC for the past three editions. How excited are you for the Megastacks?  

It’s always been exciting for me to run events for IPC and this one is something I’m looking forward to. I’m super thrilled. 

Will you be coming along with your core team members, comprising of Roderick GO, who was a tournament director, himself of Triton and Poker King Club and your team?  

Yes, and he’s going to be one of my co- TDs. We will make the event strong and run it smoothly by combining our abilities. He’s my older brother.

How do you think the pandemic affected the game globally?  

It has been a big challenge for everybody since the pandemic. All events had been cancelled, and entering the borders had been a huge problem for us and everybody. We are thankful that slowly, the situation is going back to normal. 

What is the footfall you expect in Casino Vegas this time, considering the number of players attending IPC keeps increasing year on year?

I’m sure it is going to be fully packed. Since IPC is a well known, established and very respected brand in the industry.

What are some of the challenges you face as a tournament director?  

Balancing the structures as it always depends on the market.

 A rule that Dexter always goes by?  

I always go by the fair ruling 

When Dexter has to take tough decisions, he ___  

Looks for an answer at the ceiling. We (my team) always go by the rule and make sure it’s fair for everybody so that it won’t affect the integrity of the game.

Let’s hope Mercado brings his magic to the Casino Vegas in Nepal. IPC Megastacks May 2022 is set between 17th – 23rd May 2022.
