WSOP 2019: Kunal Patni among top stacks in COLOSSUS Day 1A

Two-thirds into the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and India is still hunting for its first gold bracelet of the year and third overall. Our bracelet winner from last year Nikita Luther has reached the FT of the WPT500 Las Vegas, away from WSOP 2019. At the Rio All Suites Hotel however, we have another update of Indian players doing well.

This latest update comes from Event #61: COLOSSUS – $400 No-Limit Hold’em which had Day 1A played out today and thousands of players from around the world registered to this first starting flight. With a buy-in of just $400, it came as no surprise at all that the first flight itself saw a participation of 5,238 entrants.

This is the fifth edition of the COLOSSUS Event and play went on for 18 levels on this, the first of two starting flights, with 787 players eventually bagging their chips to return on Day 2, all in the money and guaranteed a prize of at least $600. Players with smaller stacks were even given the option of forfeiting their chips for $600 to return on Day 1B and play through for a bigger stack.

Paawan Bansal from India made a fantastic run in this tournament in WSOP 2018, finishing 13th from 13,000+ entries. This time too, a number of Indian players were in the field and leading them is Adda52 Pro Kunal Patni, who has bagged a massive stack of 849,000 chips which he now takes to Day 2 of the tournament.

Patni has nearly $500k in live cashes and is one of India’s most celebrated live poker players, with several good runs in overseas tournaments and we only hope he can go on to do something special in COLOSSUS as well. Currently, he has ended among the top 10 stacks of the day with Amador Trinidad progressing as the chip leader (1,012,000 chips).

Along with Patni, a number of other Indian players were a part of the action on Day 1A while a few managed to bag their chips as well. With a decent stack of 362,000 chips, another Indian player to have survived the day is Jaswinder Bobbe Suri. Also in contention is Madhav Gupta (287,000), while Adda52 Celebrity Pro Minissha Lamba participated but busted in the latter half od the day.

Day 1A top 10 chip counts:

  1. Amador Trinidad – 1,012,000
  2. Joseph Torres – 992,000
  3. Marc Korner – 937,000
  4. William Blais – 934,000
  5. Haoxiang Wang – 901,000
  6. Arturs Daugis – 860,000
  7. Carolyn Grad – 852,000
  8. Greg Raymer – 850,000
  9. Kunal Patni – 849,000
  10. Matthew Beisner – 828,000

Day 1b kicks off at 10 am PDT and we’re expecting another massive Indian contingent to be a part of it. For all updates on the COLOSSUS Event and other tournaments happening at WSOP 2019, stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com.
