3rd APT stop of 2019 begins today in Taiwan

2019 in Asian Poker Tour (APT)’s calendar has already seen two series in the books, the APT Kickoff Vietnam and the APT Tokyo. The first one was an extravagant affair, and especially for India since our homeboy Abhinav Iyer scored his biggest live score of ~INR 69 Lakhs by winning the Main Event.

The second one, APT Tokyo, was the first time the tour entered the pacific country and it too went into the books pretty successfully, declaring Thai pro Kannapong Thanarattrakul as the ME champion. It is now time for the 3rd of APT to take place in Taiwan, having TWD 10 million (~INR 2.31 Crores) in total series’ guarantee.

The tour has scheduled the inaugural APT Taiwan between 20th Feb and 3rd March 2019 at the Chinese Texas Holdem Poker Association (CTP Club) in Taipei, Taiwan. The series is studded with a variety of events totalling to 24 events. Some of the highlights of the series are:

  1. TWD 8.8k Dream Maker 5% Payout
  2. TWD 215k Super High Rollers
  3. TWD 54k Short Deck High Rollers Single-Day
  4. TWD 49.5k Championships Event

Among these, the first one, Dream Maker, is something that’s never been witnessed in APT’s history. The tournament will pay out 5% of the field, meaning huge sums will be awarded to those who finish in the money. Dream Maker is the idea of CTP Club President Hsing ‘David’ Tai who thinks that the concept has an affordable angle to it.

The next one, Super High Rollers, will see itself hosted on the first day too and will obviously see high-stakes grinders from the region and beyond participating in the event in huge numbers. Coming to the gem of the series, the Main Event will be hosted between 21-26 February, and has three starting flights on the first 3 days.

Two Short Deck events are also in the mix. The first one is a Single Day one and is scheduled for 25th Feb. The second one is also a single day thing but High Rollers which will be hosted on the following day, 26th Feb. Another highlight of the 12-day festival is the Kitty Kuo Special Invitational High Roller 6-Max. Kuo is a successful poker professional hailing from Taiwan itself and enjoys playing high buy-in tournaments around the world.

She has over $2 million in live earnings till now. The event is free for all with special guests expected to take part too. That sums up the gist of APT Taiwan.
