A new poker book is in town. Well-known international poker veteran Eli Elezra has written his autobiography titled ‘Pulling The Trigger’, published by Two Plus Two Publishing Company. In the book, the 58-year old poker legend chronicles his entire life, from his childhood in Israel to his latest win and everything in between.
Elezra spent over 6 years to produce his autobiography. The book opens with his 2004 WPT Showdown win, where Elezra shipped the tournament for over $1 million and came into the limelight, making a lasting impression on every poker fan. Elezra won his first WSOP bracelet in 20017 in 7-Card Stud Hi-Low, his second in 2013’s Triple Draw Lowball and his 3rd in the 7-Card Stud in 2015.
Later in the book, Elezra talks about his childhood spent in a rough neighbourhood of Jerusalem. He even describes his experience fighting in the 1982 Israeli-Lebanon war, where he was a soldier in the Jewish camp. The book goes on to talk about Elezra’s salmon gutting at an assembly line in Alaska, which was his source of income at one point.
The book was originally released in 2017 in Hebrew under the title ‘Poker Legend’, co-written by Israeli professional players Matan Krakow and Yoav Ronal. Robbie Strazynski, founder of CardPlayer Lifestyle, a big fan of Elezra, decided to translate it to English and re-titled it to the name it has now.
Strazynski told PokerNews, “I’ve always been a big Eli Elezra fan. Like so many other poker fans out there, I enjoyed watching him on High Stakes Poker and following his legendary career. To have been asked to undertake a project like this is a true honor, and I’m grateful to have precisely the right set of skills in order to carry out the task.”
Coming back to the book, it created some controversy when the original edition was released back in 2017 because it mentioned details of many under-handed deals, tales of how easy it is to run rampant debts without looking at the background of the player, etc. Elezra identified many prominent entities guilty of these offences in the book, which created some drama in the community.
Elezra also mentions anecdotes involving Doyle Brunson and David ‘Chip’ Reese as well as discussions of key poker hands Elezra played during his entire career. It is a perfect book for poker enthusiasts and budding young players who want to learn about live tournaments and who hope to someday become as legendary as the author himself
Quoting Strazynski again, who is probably Elezra’s biggest fan, he said, “What I like most about the book is that there’s something in there for everyone, from the more hardcore fans and players who enjoy reading about strategy to the more casual fans and players who are just interested in reading more about a bona fide poker legend they’ve watched for years on TV. I genuinely think this book has mainstream appeal and that anyone who picks up a copy will be hard-pressed to put it down.” You can purchase ‘Pulling The Trigger’ on Amazon India as well.
