Our Poker Community in 2024: A Celebration of Indian Poker Players and Achievements


The year 2024 was fascinating for Indian poker players and the community. Indian players appeared at some of the biggest poker tournaments, figured in ITM lists, and also won some of the most prestigious events. One such win has been termed ‘one in a billion’, proving once again just how talented Indian poker players can be, given their experience playing at some of the biggest tournaments around the world. We list some of the biggest achievements of Indian poker players in 2024. 

Indian Poker Players Achievements In 2024

#1 Nishant Sharma Becomes Poker Dream Triple Crown Winner

Nishant Sharma shone brightly at Poker Dream 23 Malaysia in 2024. He won the Main Event three times, two of those wins coming in a row. In an interview with Gutshot Magazine, Sharma termed it as something that happens once in a billion scenarios.

Sharma beat eight other contestants at the final table and took home the top prize of RM 930,800 out of the prize pool of RM 6,048,000. He had earlier shipped the ME of Poker Dream 10 and 11. Sharma had a fantastic time at Poker Dream 13, shipping two other events, the Pot Limit Omaha and  Mystery Bounty event, adding more to his bankroll. 

#2 Santhosh Suvarna Wins Second WSOP Bracelet

Santhosh Suvarna has had a magical run at the felts for some time now. In 2023, he made the country proud by bringing home a WSOP bracelet. He won his first bracelet at WSOP Europe, winning the WSOPE 50K Diamond High Roller (Bracelet Event #12) and bagging a prize of upwards of $690,000. He won his second WSOP bracelet in 2024 at WSOP Las Vegas, shipping the $250,000 NLHE Super High Roller and taking home $5,415,152.

#3 Avneesh Munjal Wins His First Live APT Title

The Asian Poker Tour is one of the biggest brands in the Asian and international poker scenes, and Avneesh Munjal, a young Indian poker player, made a name for himself by winning his first APT title. He did this by shipping VND 60 million High Roller – Double Stack at APT Phu Quoc. He took home a career-best amount of VND 1.541 billion (~₹51.34 Lakh). The entries for this event were 117, and the total prize pool was VND 54,000,000 with a buy-in of VND 6,000,000.

These are the top three achievements of Indian poker players in 2024. The players made India proud and also gave more fuel to individuals who dreamed of achieving their spot at the felts.
