Pool Rummy Vs Points Rummy: Key Differences To Know

Rummy is amongst the most popular card games being played in India right now. Earlier played on certain occasions like festivals or gatherings, the trend of this game being played online has taken over in the country. 

One of the reasons why rummy is a very popular game in India is because of the variations that it is played. For people new to rummy – this game consists of three widely popular variants, i.e. Points Rummy, Pool Rummy, and Deals Rummy. 

In this article, we focus on two particular variations, Points Rummy and Pool Rummy. While there are some similarities within each type of rummy, there are also a lot of differences that make every variation a different one. Most times, the differences in the game are based on point calculation and winnings distributed. Let’s have a look at the Points Rummy and Pool Rummy differences and understand both games better.

Points Rummy and Pool Rummy Differences 

Here, we will speak about the main differences between Points Rummy and Pool Rummy. Despite being quite similar, there are key factors that differentiate them. However, Both games have a lot of similarities which should not be missed. 

To start off with, Pool Rummy and Points Rummy require 1-2 decks of cards to play the game. Both the rummy variations are played between 2-6 players, wherein every participant is dealt 13 cards.

The winner in points rummy is determined when a certain player declares a valid set. A valid set consists of a pure sequence as well as impure sequences. Following a declaration, it is checked if it is valid. Following a valid declaration, the points of all the other players are calculated. The rules remain the same in Pool Rummy and Points Rummy, with the player who first reaches 101 points being eliminated in both games. 

Key Differences 

Pool rummy is a 13-card rummy variant which is a game based on rounds. Points Rummy, on the other hand, is a variant of 13 cards where players play for points after pre-deciding the rupee variant. Just like points rummy, the game goes on until the last player accumulates either 101 or 201 points, just like in Pool Rummy. In Pool Rummy, the points are calculated just like points rummy, but it would take longer to finish the game. 

One of the most important differences is the frequency of players dropping in Pool Rummy. In this game, players. The winner in this game incurs 0 (zero) points, whilst others incur points based on their cards that aren’t in sequences or sets. In Points rummy, players incur a penalty when they drop out.
