Virat Kohli Reported To Be Injured; Likely To Miss First ODI

Virat Kohli is rumored to miss out on featuring in the first One Day International (ODI) against England on Tuesday. As per reports, the Indian batter suffered from a groin injury in the last T20 clash and is doubtful to play at the Oval. It is expected that Kohlis’ availability for the game will be decided on match day itself.

The Indian team returned to London after the conclusion of the 3-match T20 series with the management planning an optional training day. Kohli reportedly missed it and was not seen taking part in the training session. The 33-year-old is also said to have undergone a medical assessment on the eve of the first ODI.

Virat Kohli Injury News

PTI has quoted a BCCI source sharing news on Kohli’s injury. The source is claimed saying, “Virat has a groin strain during the last game. It can’t be confirmed whether it happened during fielding or while batting. He will probably miss the first ODI tomorrow at Oval as the groin needs rest.”

There has been no update on the extent of Kohli ‘s injury so far. However, it is likely that the 33-year-old will not be risked with the management likely focusing to avoid aggravating his injury. It would be no surprise if Kohli is declared unavailable for the first ODI at the Kennington Oval.

Despite Kohli’s’ rumored unavailability, the Indian team do not have anything to worry about with the visitors having sufficient back-up. The Men in Blue had called up a 17-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series which sees the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan and Deepak Hooda be a part of the ODI squad.

Hooda has been excellent for India in the last few white ball series and could be given a chance if the 33 year old is ruled out for the first game. Kohli has been under the scanner due to his poor outing with the bat.  Questions are raised if he should be continued to be given chances which forces talented players like Hooda to miss out on a spot in the playing XI.

Kohli, who has continued to struggle with runs, is believed to have wanted a break from cricket. The former India captain has reportedly asked the BCCI to rest him from the T20I matches against West Indies. The Men in Blue are set to play three ODIs and five T20Is against the Caribbean outfit. The BCCI has already announced the team for the ODI games which sees major stars being rested. The squad for 5 T20I matches is expected to be announced soon.
