IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players Kolkata Knight Riders Could Bid For

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will enter the IPL 2023 auction with a purse of just (7.05Cr), which is the least remaining kitty amongst all ten franchises. While retaining 14 players ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, the Knight Riders released as many as 15 players and have a few slots to fill.

Despite boasting a small budget, KRR has already roped in the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Lockie Ferguson during the trade window while also signing Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals. KKR released both their wicket keepers in, Sheldon Jackson and Sam Billings, while most of the top-order batters in Hales, Finch and Rahane were also let go. The Shreyas Iyer-led side has multiple roles to fill and will be careful with their picks at the IPL 2023 auction table.

Tim Seifert

KKR acquired the services of Tim Seifert after he shined for Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. However, he only played one game for KKR before being released before the IPL 2022 auction. Despite signing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022, Seifert managed to get only three games.

Despite having an average season the last time around, Tim Seifert remains to be an attractive option for Kolkata Knight Riders. Seifert maintains a strike rate of nearly 130 in the T20I format, with the attacking opening batsman also doing a good job behind the stumps. The 27-year-old can fit multiple roles the two-time IPL champions are looking for and will be a good option for a side with a limited budget.

Samarth Vyas

KKR failed to get going in the middle overs of the tournament last season, with the team struggling to score runs between 8-14 overs. They will look to bolster their middle order and could aim to sign Saurashtra star Samarth Vyas.

The hard-hitting batter can solve that problem for KKR, with the 27-year-old boasting an astonishing strike rate of 151 plus in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also scored tons of runs and will help KKR get that extra push in the middle overs. Having an explosive player like Vyas will take some pressure off Shreyas Iyer, allowing the team captain to bat freely.

Ishant Sharma

Kolkata Knight Riders need a quality Indian pacer after they released Shivam Mavi ahead of IPL 2023 auction. Umesh Yadav is on the wrong side of the 30s, and having an Indian fast bowler backup is essential.

Ishant Sharma fits the bill for KRR, as the veteran Indian pacer has been an experienced campaigner in the tournament. Despite going unsold in IPL 2022, Sharma has shown good skills in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Playing for Delhi, the speedster featured in 4 and took five wickets while registering an economy of just 6.60. With Sharma’s base price seeing be available for just 75 lakhs, he can be a solid addition to any franchise. Having already played for KKR in the past, Sharma is accustomed to bowling at the Eden Gardens and will be a great signing for the Shreyas Iyer-led side.
