4. Arsenal (3 Titles)

Arsenal has managed to win 3 English Premier League titles since the competition started in 1992. Arsenal’s first league title came in the 1997/98 season. Arsenal competed in a fierce rivalry from 1996 to 2004 against Manchester United. In those 8 seasons, only these 2 teams managed to win the league. While Arsenal managed to compete against a very dominant Manchester United squad, they could only win the league 3 times during this rivalry with Manchester United. Incidentally, these are the only 3 English Premier League titles Arsenal have ever won.

While Arsenal has not won an English Premier League trophy since the 2003/04 Premier League season, it is for another reason that the 2003/04 season is an unforgettable season for Arsenal fans. Arsenal managed to go unbeaten in the league that year. They accumulated 90 points, boasting an impressive record of 26 wins, 12 draws, and 0 losses. There have without a doubt been more dominant teams in the English Premier League, but none have managed to go unbeaten for an entire season. This achievement earned that Arsenal team the title of ‘The Invincibles’.

3. Chelsea (5 Titles)

Chelsea was never a Premier League title contender until 2003 when Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea Football Club. In June 2003 Abramovich took over the club with ambitions to win the Premier League. Chelsea spent over £100 million in Abramovich’s first season in charge but only managed to come 2nd in the league. Abramovich decided a managerial change was needed and sacked Claudio Ranieri and brought in Jose Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho had just won the Champions League with Porto and he had an instant impact at Chelsea. Chelsea won the 2004/05 Premier League title and set some records while doing so. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea kept 25 clean sheets and conceded just 15 goals in the entire season. The record for most clean sheets and the least goals conceded in a Premier League season still belongs to the 2004/05 Chelsea side.

Chelsea won the 2005/06 league title as well. Jose Mourinho cemented his name in the club’s history after winning back-to-back titles with them. Chelsea have won a total of 5 Premier League titles. They won 3 titles with Jose Mourinho, the 2004/05 season, the 2005.06 season, and the 2014/15 season when Mourinho was reappointed as Chelsea’s manager. They also won the title in the 2009/10 season under Carlo Ancelotti. Chelsea’s latest Premier League title came in the 2016/17 season under Antonio Conte.

Manchester City is another club that started performing following a takeover. Manchester City had become an established club in the English Premier League but were nowhere near competing for the title before the takeover in 2008. City was bought by Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. The owners decided to spend money to try and help Manchester City win a league title. The spending finally worked out for the club and Manchester City managed to win their first-ever Premier League title in the 2011/12 season under Roberto Mancini.

Just 2 years later in the 2013/14 season, Manchester City managed to get their hands on a second league title, this time under Manuel Pellegrini. It was however the appointment of Pep Guardiola in 2016 that helped Manchester City become one of the best clubs in the world.

Pep Guardiola was appointed as Manchester City’s manager in the 2016/17 season. In his 7 seasons at Manchester City, Guardiola managed to win the English Premier League 5 times. The only times Pep Guardiola failed to win the league was in the 2016/17 season which was his first season in charge in which Chelsea lifted the trophy, and the 2019/20 season in which Liverpool managed to win their first and only Premier League title.

1. Manchester United (13 Titles)

Manchester United are the most decorated team in Premier League history. They have managed to win 13 League titles since the competition started in 1992. All of Manchester United’s League titles came under one manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. Sir Alex Ferguson is regarded as one of if not the best football managers ever. Alex Ferguson coached Manchester United from 1986 to 2013, leading them to 13 English Premier League titles during this time.

While Manchester United have the most titles of any Premier League club, they have not been anywhere close to what they were ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Their last league title came in the 2012/13 season. Even after all these years, Manchester United have been unable to regain their past glory. They are nowhere near competing for the title right now but will hope that they can turn things around and challenge for the league title once again.
