Yashasvi Jaiswal’s journey from rags to riches is nothing short of an inspiration to many people who come from humble backgrounds. Born on 28 December 2001, Jaiswal comes from a poor family in Suryawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. He is the fourth son among six siblings. While his father, Bhupendra Jaiswal is a small hardware shop owner, his mother Kanchan Jaiswal is a homemaker. 

Coming up from a humble family, Jaiswal moved to Mumbai at the age of ten to Dadar. However, since Dadar was far away, he shifted to the Kalbadevi neighbourhood to get cricket training at Azad Maida. He lived in a dairy shop facility and worked there in return for getting a roof over his head. 

Jaiswal was eventually asked to leave as he could offer much help at the shop and contribute more while also managing his cricket training. With nowhere to go, he started to live in a tent with a few groundsmen. The budding cricket star often went hungry and fainted, citing the circumstances. He also had to sell panipuri to earn hard-earned money back then. 

Jaiswal got some ease in life when Jwala Singh, who runs the Cricket Foundation in Santa Cruz, noticed his cricketing potential. He not only encouraged Jaiswal to play but also gave him a place to live in December 2013. Later on, Singh became his lawful watchman by obtaining power of attorney.

The young batter started to make waves in the cricketing rounds and shot to fame when he hit 319 runs and took 13/99 in a Giles Shield match in 2015. It earned him a spot in Mumbai’s under-16 squad, with his innings also being recognized by the Limca Book of Records, citing his all-round record in school cricket. 

This knock saw him get a chance to feature for the Indian U-19 team as well. Jaiswal shined with the bat, being the highest run-scorer during the under-19 tri-series between India, Bangladesh and England. He was named as the player of the tournament during the 2018 tour. 

Later on, Jaiswal made his first-class debut in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy for Mumbai while making his List A 28 debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in September 2019.

A month later, the batter scored 203 runs in 154 balls against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to become the youngest player to double century in List A cricket. The 17-year-old hit 17 fours and 12 sixes against a bowling attack that consisted of Shahbaz Nadeem and Varun Aaron. 

Jaiswal was also amongst the top five run-scorers during the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, amassing 564 runs from just 6 matches. Citing his performances, he was named in the India B team for the 2019–20 edition of Deodhar Trophy.

Later on, He was selected for India’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Jaiswal emerged as the highest run-scorer in the tournament while also scoring a century against Pakistan in the semi-final. He was also named as the player of the tournament in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. 

Given his performances at the U-19 level, Rajasthan Royals signed him up during the 2020 IPL auction. The IPL 2008 winners did not shy away from expressing their interest in him and considered Jaiswal to be a part of their long project. The youngster was given a chance to make his talent count, with the team spending a whopping ₹ 2.4 Crore for his services.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his IPL debut during the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. He played his first match in the tournament for Rajasthan Royals on 22 September 2020. However, IPL 2021 turned out to be the turning point where the young batter shined with the bat and showcased his talent. Jaiswal played ten matches in IPL 2021 and scored 249 runs which included his maiden half-century at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 148. 21.
