T20 World Cup: Centuries Hit By Players: Eighteen games have been played in the current ICC T20 World Cup 2022. So far, no player has yet scored a ton in the current edition of the World Cup. Scoring a century in an ICC event is not everyone’s cup of tea. ICC introduced the T20 World Cup in 2007, but only one century was achieved in that edition.
Fans across the globe witnessed batters who smashed centuries in the T20 World Cup. So let’s look at those top batters who managed to smash a century in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Indeed one of the best T20 players in the world, Chris Gayle, has performed wonders in the T20 format. The left-handed West Indian batter is considered a beast in white-ball cricket. Gayle is one of the few cricketers who played every game format and dominated it. Gayle is known as the universe boss of world cricket thanks to his six-hitting abilities.
Gayle smashed a century in the first edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, after which he also hit a century in the first match of the inaugural edition of the World Cup against South Africa in 2010. Gayle scored 117 runs off 57 balls, where the universe boss smashed seven fours and ten sixes.
Gayle’s second century came against England in the 10th match of the 2016 World Cup at Wankhede Stadium. The English had set a target of 183 runs for the West Indies team. Gayle scored 100* off 48 balls to help his team win the match. In that match, he also hit five fours and 11 sixes. This is also the fastest century in the T20 World Cup.

Only a few players in the world could thrash the South African bowling line-up a decade ago. But do you know there was a man who did it in just 60 balls? One of India’s finest middle-order batsmen and a T20 specialist Suresh Raina registered himself in the list of most centuries smashed by a batter in the T20 World Cup in 2010.
The left-hander became the second batter in the T20 World Cup to record a century. This milestone came in the fifth game of the tournament, which was played at Gros Islet between South Africa and India. India scored 186/5 in 20 overs. Raina smashed 101 runs off 60 balls, including five maximums and nine fours. He is known for being the only Indian to score a century at the T20 World Cup.

At the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Brendon McCullum played an unbelievable inning of 123* off 58 balls, which included 11 boundaries and seven sixes. He needed just 51 balls to score 100 runs. His 123* run innings remain the most significant total ever recorded by a batsman in a T20 World Cup.
On 27th March 2022, in the 22nd T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka (SL), Alex Hales smashed 116* runs in just 64 balls. Hales is indeed one of the finest T20 batsmen produced by England cricket. He is the first Englishman to score a century in a T20 International match. Before this game, no England player could ever achieve a personal three-digit score in T20 cricket. Hales’ century during the 22nd World T20 game was the first individual century of the 2014 T20 World Cup.
In the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup, some batsmen destroyed their reputations while others were shining bright. Ahmed Shehzad is among the stars after he scored Pakistan’s first T20 century against Bangladesh with an explosive unbeaten 111. He was once compared to Virat Kohli and was expected to be Pakistan’s next big thing. Still, his inconsistent play and injury issues have kept him out of international competition since 2019.

Only a few Bangladeshi batters have gained popularity as Tamim Iqbal did. Considered one of the best openers in the world, Iqbal performed wonders in world cricket. This batting talent enjoyed his prime in 2016 when the lad smashed 103* runs in 63 balls against Oman in the 2016 T20 World Cup. The century was not against a big team, but Iqbal’s innings were mesmerizing.
Jos Buttler, in 2021, also joined the elite group of batters who have amassed hundreds of points in the premier T20 competition. After the incredible knock against Sri Lanka, Butler joined the club with players like Chris Gayle, Ahmed Shehzad, Alex Hales, Mahela Jayawardene, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, and Tamim Iqbal. This English cricketer is leading England in the current edition of the T20 World Cup. Butler is one of the finest T20 batsmen the world has seen and is expected to showcase some eye-popping knocks.
Back then, white ball cricket was the bowler’s game. The introduction of the India Premier League (IPL) changed the fate of world cricket and produced several T20 specialists. T20 cricket is a format loved by the batters, and smashing a century in this format is nothing short of a dream.
