Roger Binny To Replace Sourav Ganguly As New BCCI President

India’s 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny will replace former India skipper Sourav Ganguly as the president of The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the upcoming elections. According to various media outlets, the top-level officials in the BCCI will meet in Mumbai on 11th October and be a part of the meeting, where they will determine all the high-level decisions of India’s apex cricketing council.

Roger Binny to be the Next BCCI President?  

As per reports, initial discussions are said to be conducted in Delhi, with the finalizations set to take place on Tuesday in Mumbai. Roger Binny has been speculated to win the race and take over from Sourav Ganguly as the next BCCI president. The candidates will file their nominations for the BCCI elections on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the elections seemingly a formality, scheduled to happen on 18th October.

Binny and the rest of the finalized candidates for the office-bearers’ posts will be on Tuesday. Candidates can file their nominations on Tuesday and Wednesday. An unnamed BCCI source has been quoted saying, “Roger Binny will be the new president of the BCCI. Rajivji (Rajiv Shukla) will stay on as the VP.” Jay Shah, on the other hand, is expected to continue as the BCCI secretary. 

Roger Binny arrived in Mumbai at this meeting which can also be considered a confirmation of his selection as the next president of India’s cricket governing body. The 67-year-old has been a major part of the country’s cricketing history have played 27 Tests between 1979-1987 and 72 ODIs claiming 47 wickets and 77 wickets, respectively.

Sourav Ganguly, on the other hand, is reported to be linked with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman job. He is said to opt against contesting during the reelections to join the apex cricket governing body.  Despite all the rumours, Ganguly was earlier quoted in September by PTI stating, “ICC chairmanship is not in my hands.”

The ex-Indian cricketer entered into cricket administration after retirement when he took up a role at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in 2015. He took control for four years before leaving his position in 2019 and joining the BCCI as the president.
