Ravindra Jadeja Ruled Out Of Asia Cup, BCCI Announces Replacement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of Asia Cup 2022. The 33 year old has sustained a right knee injury and will discontinue his participation in the 6 nation tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team, who will assess his recovery following the injury.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as Jadeja replacement for the ongoing Asia Cup. Patel was earlier named as a reserve player for the tournament but is now set to be a part of the main squad. He is expected to join up with the Men in Blue team in Dubai soon.

Earlier, Jadeja was promoted to number four in India’s first match of the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan. He was pushed up the order in the absence of the left-hander Rishabh Pant. His outing with the bat and partnership with Hardik Pandya played a crucial role in India’s 148-run chase against the Men in Green last Sunday. He did not bat in the second game against Hong Kong but went on to record figures of 1/15 as the Men in Blue registered a 40-run win.

Axar Patel comes in as a like-to-like replacement of Ravindra Jadeja with the Gujarat based all-rounder walking in the team for the Saurashtra star. He is expected to walk directly into the playing XI with the Men in Blue playing with a certain set formula.

Another option for Rahul Dravid’s men could see Rishabh Pant walk into the team. However, it would put pressure on Hardik Pandya to bowl his full quota of 4 overs in the remaining matches. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi are other front line spinners that are a part of the Asia Cup squad alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and could get a chance to feature in Ravindra Jadeja’s absence.
