Raphael Varane started his youth career with a team called Hellemmes. After a short stint with the club, he moved to the Racing Club de Lens (RC Lens) youth academy in 2002. He made his debut for RC Lens II in the club’s opening league match of the campaign against Drancy.

After more than a decade with the club, the French defender decided to leave Real Madrid and joined Premier League side Manchester United. He signed with the club on 14th August 2021 and went on to make his debut for the team on 29th August 2021 against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defender made 95 appearances for the club in all competitions before leaving to join Como ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Raphael Varane joined Serie A side Como on 28th July 2024 on a two-year deal. His stay at the club, however, ended much before this two-year period. Just two months into the season, he picked up another injury and decided to retire. Raphael Varane announced his retirement from football on 25th September 2024. This news came less than two months after he signed a two-year deal with Serie A side Como. While initially excited to continue his footballing career in the Serie A, the French defender picked up another injury just months into his career with Como. The end of Varane’s career was littered with injuries, and this one crossed the limit for the defender, he decided that he could not carry on like this and announced his retirement from the beautiful game.
