IPL 2023 Retention: Check Out Latest Updates On All IPL Teams

With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 ending in Australia just a few days ago, the focus now shifts to the Indian Premier League (IPL). All ten franchises participating in the cash-rich competition are set to announce their IPL 2023 Retention List to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with the submission deadline being 15th November.

Gutshot Magazine will provide fans with all IPL 2023 Retention updates and the list of all retained and released players by the teams ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction. The highly awaited IPL 2023 auction is set to take place on 23rd December in Kochi. Let’s have a look at all you need to know about the IPL 2023 Retention and the necessary updates.

IPL 2023 Retention: Mumbai Indians Final List  

Mumbai Indians have opted to released at ton of international stars. The Rohit Sharma-captained franchise have let go of 13 players. They have traded in Australian left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff from Royal Challengers Bangalore to strengthen their pace bowling as questions remain on the availability of England speedster Jofra Archer.

Former captain and long time servant Kieron Pollard is also released players’ list which sees him announce retirement from IPL. The star all-rounder has also been named as the batting coach of the franchise. 

 

Mumbai Indians Retained Players: Rohit Sharma (C), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Ramandeep Singh, Tristan Stubbs, Ishan Kishan, Jofra Archer, Dewald Brevis, Arjun Tendulkar, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Arshad Khan, Jason Behrendorff, Hrithik Shokeen, Akash Madhwal

Expert’s opinion- The Ambani owned franchise will need to land a marquee star like Sam Curran or Ben Stokes to get back in the race of winning IPL 2023.

IPL 2023 Retention: Chennai Super Kings Final List 

One of the best teams in the competition’s history, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), had a poor outing in IPL 2022 and has released a lot players for the upcoming auction. Despite various rumours, Ravindra Jadeja is retained by the franchise.

However, Adam Milne, Chris Jordan and Narayan Jagdeeshan have faced the axe and released by the team. Releasing Dwayne Bravo added 4.4 crores to their kitty,  giving them a ton of capital to sign a marquee player like Sam Curran once again. 

CSK Retained Players: MS Dhoni (C), Ambati Rayudu, Subhranshu Senapati, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Dwaine Pretorius, Tushar Deshpande, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Mukesh Chowdhary, Deepak Chahar, Simarjeet Singh, Maheesh Theekshana, Prashant Solanki

CSK Released players: Robin Uthappa (retired), Dwayne Bravo, Hari Nishaanth, Adam Milne, Bhagath Varma, Chris Jordan,  Narayan Jagadeesan, KM Asif 

Expert’s Opinion– The team still relies on old horses to get the job done. Unpredictable performances from veterans have heavily affected the team, and they badly need some young blood. With MS Dhoni not going to be around for much time, CSK needs to get a young wicketkeeper and groom him under the guidance of the former Indian skipper.

IPL 2023 Retention: Punjab Kings Final List

The Punjab Kings team management has released a lot of players ahead of the upcoming IPL 2023 Retention deadline. There are also a lot of changes taking place within the team which started with Shikhar Dhawan replacing Mayank Agarwal as the new captain of Punjab Kings. Trevor Bayliss has shown big money-flop signings like Odean Smith the door with Indian talents like Mayank Agarwal, Prerak Mankad, Writtick Chatterjee thrown into the auction pool. 

Punjab Kings Retained Players: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Jonny Bairstow, Shahrukh Khan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Prabhsimran Singh, Raj Bawa, Jitesh Sharma, Liam Livingstone, Rishi Dhawan, Arshdeep Singh, Atharva Taide, Nathan Ellis, Baltej Singh, Harpreet Brar, Kagiso Rabada,Rahul Chahar 

Punjab Kings Released Players: Vaibhav Arora, Odean Smith, Mayank Agarwal, Ishan Porel, Benny Howell, Prerak Mankad, Ansh Patel, Writtick Chatterjee, Sandeep Sharma

Expert’s Opinion- The Preity Zinta co-owned side has the second biggest purse after submitting the Retention List. It is very important for them to build a side under a new coach and invest in match winners.

IPL 2023 Retention: K0lkata Knight Riders Final List 

Australian speedster Pat Cummins has been released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the upcoming IPL 2023 auction. The Australian Test captain will not feature in IPL 2023 and focus on the upcoming Ashes series, just like Mitchell Starc. Sam Billings has also opted out of IPL 2023 citing personal reasons. 

The two-time champions have officially roped in Gujarat Titans Lockie Ferguson, with the New Zealand fast bowler acting as a more than capable replacement for Cummins. The Men in Purple have also traded in Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Shardul Thakur is also set to be expected to join the team.

KKR Retained Players: Shreyas Iyer (C), Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Shardul Thakur, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy

KKR Released Players: Sam Billings, Pat Cummins, Aman Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Shivam Mavi, Chamika Karunaratne, Alex Hales, Aaron Finch, Ajinkya Rahane, Ashok Sharma, Abhijeet Tomar, Pratham Singh, Baba Indrajith, Rasikh Salam, Ramesh Kumar, Sheldon Jackson

Expert’s Opinion-KKR has been one of the busiest teams in the trading window and made some excellent signings. It remains interesting to see how a legendary coach of the domestic circuit, Chandrakant Pandit works his magic in this tournament.

IPL 2023 Retention: Sunrisers Hyderabad Final List 

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have let go of various players like Sean Abbott, Romario Shepherd with big names like Kane Williamson and Nicholas Pooran also released by the franchise. It remains to be seen what the Men in Orange have in store for the upcoming edition of the IPL auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Retained Players: Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tripathi, Marco Jansen, Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma, Kartik Tyagi, Fazalhaq Farooqi, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik 

Sunrisers Hyderabad Released Players: Nicholas Pooran, Kane Williamson, Jagadeesha Suchith, Ravikumar Samarth, Priyam Garg, Saurabh Dubey, Romario Shepherd, Shreyas Gopal, Sushant Mishra, Sean Abbott, Shashank Singh, Vishnu Vinod

Expert Opinion– SRH struggled a lot due to injuries last season. After the retention list was  released, SRH have the biggest purse. They will look for a captain ahead of IPL 2023 alongside a marquee signing at the end of the innings. 

IPL 2023 Retention Royal Challengers Bangalore Final List 

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have kept faith in its strong core. Skipper Faf du Plessis, alongside Virat Kohli, Harshal Patel, Glenn Maxwell, and Wanindu Hasaranga are retained with franchise also releasing a few players to ease up the purse. They have also traded Jason Behrendorff to Mumbai Indians as well.

Expert Opinion- RCB has done well by looking to fill up the chinks in its armour. A few updates in the right department, and it could well be their year next time around.

IPL 2023 Retention: Delhi Capitals Final List

Delhi Capitals (DC) traded Shardul Thakur to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and added 10.75 crores to their purse ahead of IPL 2023 auction. Apart from the Indian all-rounder, the Rishabh Pant-led team has let go off just 4 more players.

The trade deal between KKR and DC also sees Aman Khan joining the Delhi Captails while Shardul Thakur went the other way. The team’s official social media has posted on it.

Expert Opinion-  The franchise in on the right track and needs to strength their bowling department ahead of IPL 2023. Signing a premium fast bowler will massively strengthen the team.

IPL 2023 Retention: Lucknow Super Giants Final List  

Lucknow Super Giants have a number of players that do not fit into the scheme of things. They have managed to smartly let go of those players with 7 players released by the franchise. High profile players like Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Andrew Tye, Dushmantha Chameera and Ankit Rajpoot. 

Lucknow Super Giants Retained Players: Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul (C), Karan Sharma, Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, Krishnappa Gowtham, Manan Vohra, Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, Krunal Pandya, Mark Wood, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav

IPL 2023 Retention: Rajasthan Royals Final List 

The IPL 2022 finalists had a near-perfect season and narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy for the second time. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have released 9 players to free up their purse which includes the likes of Navdeep Saini, Rassie van der Dussen and Daryl Mitchell ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

Rajasthan Royals Retained Players: Sanju Samson (C), Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Dhruv Jurel, Devdutt Padikkal, Prasidh Krishna, Riyan Parag, Obed McCoy, Trent Boult, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, KC Cariappa

Rajasthan Royals Released Players: Corbin Bosch, Anunay Singh, James Neesham, Daryl Mitchell, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Karun Nair, Shubham Garhwal, Rassie van der Dussen, Tejas Baroka

Expert Opinion– There is no specific area of concern for the team right now. However, it is worth noting that the RR was over-reliant on players like Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson last time around. They should look to bring Ben Stokes back to the team this time.

IPL 2023 Retention: Gujarat Titans Final List 

Gujarat Titans will keep their strong core intact which consists of skipper Hardik Pandya alongside the likes of Shubman Gill, David Miller and Rashid Khan. Despite trading away Rahmanullah Gurbaz and  Lockie Ferguson to Kolkata Knight Riders, the maiden IPL winners have released quite a few players like Varun Aaron and Vijay Shankar, Jason Roy and Dominic Drakes.

Gujarat Titans Retained Players: Hardik Pandya (capt), Shubman Gill, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Sai Sudharsan, Wriddhiman Saha, Matthew Wade, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Mohammed Shami, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Pradeep Sangwan, Darshan Nalkande, Jayant Yadav, R Sai Kishore, Noor Ahmad

Gujarat Titans Released Players: Lockie Ferguson, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Gurkeerat Singh, Dominic Drakes, Varun Aaron, Jason Roy

Expert Opinion- Gujarat Titans will look to increase their purse value and sign marquee players to bolster their team. The signing of a solid lower middle order all-rounder like Sam Curran/ Ben Stokes will do the trick for the team.
