The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will take place between 1st June and 29th June 2024. There will be 20 teams competing in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The World Cup is one of the most prestigious trophies in cricket. While the ODI World Cup is considered to be the biggest achievement, the T20 World Cup is almost equally as important. What Is ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Format?

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will witness a fierce battle among 20 teams, all vying for the coveted title of world champions. The teams have been strategically divided into four groups of five, setting the stage for an intense group stage. Each team will face off against the other four in its group, with the top two from each group earning a ticket to the next stage of the tournament.

The two teams in each of the four groups qualify for the ‘Super Eight’ part of the tournament. 12 teams who come between 3rd and 5th in each group are eliminated, and the other eight teams qualify for the next stage. The eight teams in the Super Eight are further divided into two groups of four teams each.

Unlike other tournaments, the Super Eight groups will not be decided according to where the team finishes in the group stage. Instead, each group has its seedings already set. For example, in Group A, India is the first seed, and Pakistan is the second seed. In Group B, England is the first seed, and Australia is the second seed. This means that no matter if India and Australia finish 1st or 2nd in their respective groups, they both will be placed in Group 1 of the Super Eight.

This is because the two Super Eight groups have already been decided according to the seeding. Group 1 will consist of A1, B2, C1, and D2 teams while Group 2 will consist of A2, B1, C2, and D1 teams. If some team causes an upset, they will take the seeding of the team they eliminated. For example, if Canada were to qualify for the Super Eight instead of Pakistan, they would automatically take the seed of Pakistan. Even if Canada ended up finishing first, they would count as A2 and would be placed into Group 2. If both non-seeded teams end up qualifying somehow, then the format will revert back to the ladder position.

The Super Eight will take place in the same manner as the group stages. There will be two groups, each consisting of four teams. Each team will play the three other teams once. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The winners from each semi-final will play in the final to win the Men’s T20 World Cup trophy.

T20 World Cup 2022 Format

This year’s format is a big change from the format used in the 2022 T20 World Cup. In that edition, a total of 16 teams participated, with the top eight teams getting automatic qualification to the Super Eight. The other eight teams were divided into two groups of four, and the top two teams from each group qualified for the ‘Super 12’. Not only have the teams been increased this time out, but the format of how the teams will play has also changed. All teams will participate in the group stages to qualify for the Super Eight, which makes it even more exciting.
