Former Pakistan Skipper Warns India Of Repeating THIS Mistakes

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced The Men in Blue squad for the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. Most of the key players including all format captain Rohit Sharma, alongside Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for the tour. These 5 players also missed out on featuring in the latest ODI series against West Indies as well.

Shikhar Dhawan led India in Sharma’s absence and helped the Men in Blue register a comprehensive 3-0 in the against West Indies. He has also been the captain for the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe with the star players rested for the tour. The Indian team managements’ decision to rest the senior cricketers after just one series has come under scrutiny.

This has also seen seven players holding captaincy duties for India across various series in 2022. The former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has claimed that such constant rotation in captaincy is not helpful. He goes on to add how the Men in Blue are making the same mistake that Pakistan did in the past decade.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rashid Latif said, “Everyone talks about backup. But they have now produced seven backup captains in the past year! This is the first time I’m seeing this in India’s history. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah. They are repeating the same mistake as Pakistan’s in the 1990s.”

He also went on to claim how Rohit’s first choice deputy across all three formats, KL Rahul has not played cricket since May 2022. The star opening batter has been struggling with injuries, undergoing a hernia surgery in June before missing out on the West Indies tour due to the Covid-19 virus.

Latif claims that lack of matches for KL Rahul as well as Rohit Sharma sees no current captaincy option playing regular cricket. The former Pakistan cricketer also stresses upon the importance for India to have a captain like former leaders.

He added, “They haven’t found a solid opener, nor do they have a stable middle-order. They just want a new captain. No captain is playing consistently for them. KL Rahul is unfit now; Rohit was unfit before. Virat is mentally unfit. So, they will have to think about it. They are changing so many captains.. they need a leader like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli.”
