BCCI To Select Full-Strength T20I Squad Against West Indies?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce India’s squad for the upcoming T20I matches against the West Indies on 11th July. According to various reports, the squad will see the return of senior members to the Indian set up.

Earlier, BCCI had announced the team selected for the ODI series against the West Indies. It saw Shikhar Dhawan being named as the captain of the team with Ravindra Jadeja announced as his deputy. The likes of India’s all format skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were rested for the ODIs.

However, all the above-mentioned stars are expected to be brought back in the team for the T20I series.  The seasoned Indian stars are expected to be included in the T20I series and likely play in all the five games. The Indian team management is reported to have a full strength for the upcoming matches against the Caribbean outfit, with the exception of Virat Kohli.

The reports adds how the Indian cricket team’s selection committee wants to see the star players feature in the series. It will see them return to the team after being rested for the three ODIs that will be played at the start of the West Indies tour.

Decoding BCCI’s decision ahead of WI T20I’s?

The decision has been reportedly taken by the selection committee head Chetan Sharma alongside Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma. The BCCI and Indian team’s think tank is expected to try out all the possible combinations and shortlist their players for the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

A senior BCCI source was quoted by PTI saying, “It was team management’s decision to rest Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Pandya, Bumrah for the (WI) ODI series along with the skipper himself.”

Kohli, on the other hand, is expected to miss the  T20I’s with the 33-year-old reported to want a break for the whole tour. The BCCI source added, ” However for the T20I series, all others are playing but Kohli has himself asked for a break. He has informed that he will be available for all series after the West Indies tour.”

It is also rumored that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin could make a comeback to the T20I team for the West Indies games. The 35-year-old last played a T20I clash for India back in November 2021 against New Zealand. He is expected to earn a possibly get a call-up for the 5-match T20I series against the Caribbean team.
