Trailing the Aussies by a score just above 100 runs, Sri Lankan batters had all the time in the world to settle in on the pitch. They started off the innings well with Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka hitting Mitchell Starc for 17 runs in the first over. However, things began to drastically change Nathan Lyon arrived to bowl.
The Aussie spinners ran past Sri Lanka’s batting order in their second innings with the SL batters failing to strike the right balance. The hosts did not bat sensibly on a track that was assisting the spinners. Their thought process of taking an aggressive route costed them heavily as the home side was bowled out for a mere 113.
Lyon and Swepson kicked-off the debacle with the duo taking four and two wickets respectively as the former picked up nine wickets in the match. Travis Head too joined in the party and ended up with four wickets against his name in just 2.5 overs.
