Asia Cup 2022: Decoding The Squad of Pakistan

Asia Cup 2022: Decoding The Squad of Pakistan: Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2022. During the tournament, 13 matches will be played. The defending champion, India, won the tournament in 2018 by defeating Bangladesh in the final. The first game is scheduled to be played between India and Pakistan. Six teams will compete in the grand event, each attempting to dethrone Team India and win the grand event.

Pakistan, in the current edition of Asia Cup 2022, will face India in the first game of the contest, i.e., on 28th August 2022. Both sides will meet for the first time in the tournament after ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Pakistan and co announced its squad earlier this month, where Shaheen Afridi will now not play in Asia Cup as he is ruled out owing to an injury. PCB skipped Hasan Ali this time and invested their faith in youngster Naseem Shah. Meanwhile, Mohammad Hasnain replaced Shahin Afridi.

Batting

  • Looking at the previous form, I am assured that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman will lead the batting side.
  • Pakistan under Babar Azam had played exceptionally well. As mentioned above, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman will lead the top order. The trio against India is lethal and would not leave any coins unturned to defeat team India.
  • Apart from these three, Haidar Ali and Asif Ali looked decent in Pakistan’s previous tours, and they will have to look after the squad’s middle order.

No Shaheen Afridi against India

  • Pakistan has created several world-class bowlers that bowl over 150 KPH. Naseem Shah is one of few Pakistani bowlers that can bowl 150+ with a new ball.
  • We have seen him performing only in tests, i.e., with the red ball. Based on his performance against Sri Lanka last month, PCB gave him a chance to try his fate in the white ball too.
  • Naseem and Hasnain are expected to start with the new ball.

Pakistan Squad

Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani, Usman Qadir

India vs. Pakistan is regarded as the pinnacle of any rivalry, with intense pressure on and off the field. Every player wants to do well, no matter how young or experienced. The manner in which Australia thrashed Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 demonstrated how Pakistan’s bowling line-up could be demolished.
