What’s The Difference Between Teen Patti And Rummy?

Teen Patti and rummy are both card games no doubt. But each has its unique playing technique and each comes with its own set of rules. As you go through the details of each card game, you will see the land lies differently but your enthusiasm is all it takes to negotiate the game. Here is an explanation on how they vary:

Rummy Characteristics

  • Rummy is a combination of strategy and skill.
  • It is an age-old card game played with 13 cards.
  • Cards are circulated clockwise in rummy.
  • In rummy, you need not put money on the card table before the game starts.
  • Online rummy is a game of skill and hence legal in India.
  • In rummy, you stand to play with real cash.
  • For any cash winnings, you receive a TDS certificate.
  • Rummy is for serious players looking to enjoy battling skills – time consuming as it is, many from the older generation appreciate it.
  • Rummy has historical beginnings. No mythological background whatsoever.
  • Rummy is played with two decks of cards including 2 jokers.
  • To win the game, you must be able to group all your cards into valid sets and sequences.
  • Rummy starts with dealing 13 cards to each player. A random card is picked as the joker or wild joker. This is followed by drawing and discarding so players can make valid sets and sequences.
  • The winner is the player who is the first to arrange his 13 cards in a valid set and sequence combo.
  • In rummy, players keep drawing and discarding cards until one player finally declares.

Teen Patti Details

  • Teen Patti is based on matching cards – it’s merely a game of luck – it does not call for skill so much.
  • It is a simplified version of poker.
  • In Teen Patti, cards are distributed anti-clockwise.
  • Teen Patti mandates you to do so – first money and then game.
  • Teen Patti is illegal in India as it is a game of luck.
  • Teen Patti is played with dummy money only.
  • Since you don’t play Teen Patti with real money – no tax issues.
  • Teen Patti is a casual, fun, non-serious, no-money game – it is fast and favored by youngsters.
  • They say Teen Patti has mythological origins – but there is no valid proof.
  • Teen Patti is usually played with a total of 52 cards without jokers.
  • Each player plays with 3 cards in their hand. For winning, the best card hand must have three cards of the same rank. 3 Aces is the highest one can get.
  • Teen Patti begins when each player places the ante bet. The dealer then deals 3 cards each to all players. This is when players can decide to fold (opt out) if they have a bad hand or continue if they have a good hand.
  • The one player who does not fold is declared the winner in that round.
  • In Teen Patti, players continue betting until every player folds except one. Alternately, betting continues till all players except two players fold.

So that’s how the two games are unique in their own respect. You can try for yourself and see which one you like more.
