Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the best batters in white ball cricket for the Men in Blue over the last 18 months. While the likes of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer failed to get going in the middle order earlier, it was Yadav who took the responsibility on his shoulders and carried the team in times of trouble.
Citing his antics in white ball in cricket, fans have demanded to see the 32 year old feature for India in Test matches as well. Yadav has received his much-awaited national team call-up in the longest format of the game. The in-form middle-order batter will be a part of the Indian side for the upcoming Test matches against Australia.
If reports are to be believed, the Mumbai based star is included in the team for him hard hitting capabilities. BCCCI is rumored to look out for an impact player in the test side who can take the game on in crucial times and essentially play the ‘Rishabh Pant role’ in Test matches. India will miss the wicketkeeper’s services as he is all set expected to miss out the entirety of 2023 after being involved in a heavy accident, back in December 2022.
Various sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Suryakumar Yadav is said to get a chance for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with Indian team management rewarding the middle order batter for his consistent performances in the white ball cricket over the last couple few months.
Earlier, Ravi Shastri vouched for Suryakumar Yadav’s inclusion in the national Test side. The former India head coach called him a ‘three-format player’ and someone who can do a great job in red-ball cricket. The 32-year-old also has numbers to back him in Test cricket, with the Mumbai cricketer averaging 44.01 while scoring over 5,000 runs in First-Class cricket. It also includes 14 centuries and 26 half-centuries.
Citing Suryakumar Yadav’s phenomenal red-ball record, it makes sense for him to be a part of the Indian playing XI for the Bangladesh Tests. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play four Tests against Australia at home. Despite being a part of two Test squads against England and New Zealand, Suryakumar Yadav is yet to officially make his debut in red-ball cricket. It remains interesting to see what the future holds for ICC’s number 1 ranked T20I batter.
