Shubman Gill scored his maiden century in One Day Internationals (ODI) in the third and final clash against Zimbabwe on Monday. He breached the three digit mark with a strike rate in excess of 100 pushing the Men in Blue in a strong situation at the end of the first innings at the Harare Sports Club.
The young 22-year-old batter walked into bat after Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul gave the visitors a steady start. However, the Indian team captain was sent back to the hut after scoring 30 in 45 balls which saw Gill join Dhawan at the crease.
The duo failed to build a solid partnership as Brad Evans got the better of Dhawan, sending the left-handed batter back to the pavilion at the score of 40 runs off 68 balls. Shubman Gill was joined by another left-handed batter Ishan Kishan after Dhawan’s wicket.
Both Gill and Kishan rebuilt India’s innings with a cautious approach playing every ball on its merit while punishing the bad deliveries. With a solid 140 run partnership, they pulled India back to the game as Kishan completed his fifty from just 61 balls.

The 22-year-old accelerated his scoring rate as he reached closer to the milestone. However, Gill ended up running out Ishan Kishan in the process. He went through a few nervy moments in the 90s but managed to keep his composure and took a single in the 44th over of the innings to breach the three-digit barrier.
Shubman Gill brought up his first ODI century off 82 balls, hitting the ball at a strike rate of 122. He smashed 12 boundaries to record his maiden hundred in white ball cricket, becoming the 3rd youngest Indian to score an overseas century.
