Suryakumar Yadav Rises Upto 2nd Spot In Latest ICC Rankings

India batter Suryakumar Yadav made a massive jump in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings. The Mumbai Indians star moved up to the second position, closing in on the gap between him and Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the ICC rankings.

Azam is in danger of losing his top spot in the Men’s T20I rankings with Suryakumar Yadav just two rating points away from matching the Men in Green’s captain. The Indian batter has moved within striking distance to be named as the best T20I batter in the world after fantastic outings in recent games.

The 31-year-old made his international debut last year and has been a consistent performer for the Men in Blue in the shortest format of the game. He scored a fantastic century against England last month before recording a match-winning half-century in the 3rd T20I against West Indies on Tuesday.

After being promoted up the order, Suryakumar Yadav opened the innings for India alongside Rohit Sharma for the first time. He has scored 111 runs in the first three matches of the series so far. His latest innings saw the middle order batter score 76 runs from just 44 balls helping India take a 2-1 lead in the series. Suryakumar Yadav’s outing in the 3rd T20 propelled him to jump up by three spots and move just two rating points away from Babar Azam.

Suryakumar Yadav is likely to play in the remaining two T20I against West Indies in the USA. If he manages to accumulate runs and perform well, the 31 year old stands a chance to possibly move ahead of Babar Azam in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings.  He could the World ‘s no 1 T20 batter with Pakistan’s next T20I contest set to be against India at the Asia Cup later this month.

Yadav’s rise in the ICC T20I rankings saw the likes of Mohammad Rizwan , alongside South Africa’s Aiden Markram and England’s Dawid Malan drop down a spot. Apart from the changes in the top 5, many other batters gained giant strides in the latest rankings.
