Indian cricket team middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has backed fellow opener KL Rahul after the Men in Blues’ win over Hong Kong. The 31 year old is amongst the news since his comeback to the national team earlier last month. He returned to international cricket after a long time with health concerns and injuries keeping him away.
KL Rahul led the new Lucknow Super Giants in May before suffering from an injury. It resulted in the 31-year-old traveling to Germany for his treatment and getting a sports hernia surgery. Later, he continued his rehabilitation at the NCA in Bangalore and was expected to return to the Indian team for the T20I leg during the tour to the West Indies. However, he contracted the COVID-19 virus and had to miss out for the tour to the Caribbean.
He finally made a comeback to the side against Zimbabwe but failed to make any impact during the ODI series. Rahul’s outings at Asia Cup 2022 also did not go as planned. The 31-year-old was dismissed for a golden duck during India’s match against Pakistan. Despite facing a subpar bowling attack of Hong Kong, Rahul failed to score at a strike rate more than a 100. He ended up scoring 36 off 39 balls before losing his wicket to Mohammad Ghazanfar.
Speaking with the media in the press conference after India’s win, Suryakumar Yadav backed KL Rahul amid the opener’s struggles. The Mumbai based star also shared how he can bat at any position that helps the team. He backed KL Rahul and passed a quirky comment while he was asked if he would open the innings for India. Suryakumar Yadav responded to the question with, “Aap bol rahe ho ke KL bhai ko nahi khilana chahiye?”

The middle order batsman was also quoted defending Kl Rahul and said, “He (Rahul) is coming back from an injury, he also needs some time. We have some time right now. As far as I am concerned, I have always said that I am very flexible to bat at any number.”
“I have told the coach and captain that make me bat at any number, but just play me. Things will go on. There are a lot of things we are also trying. Instead of doing it at practice, it is better to try those things during a match. We will get a better idea, so we will see how it goes,” Suryakumar Yadav added.
