Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra took to Twitter and voiced a strange opinion after the fifth T20I match was washed out in Bengaluru. The last clash of the series was all set to be the title decider with India and South Africa heading into the game after leveling the series at 2-2. However, the game saw rain pour down at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with only 21 balls being bowled on the day.
Aakash Chopra, most famously known for his skills behind the mike, was pretty vocal on how rain played spoilsport in a highly anticipated game. He went on to share his opinion suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should invest in “retractable roofs” for stadiums after the clash.

The start of the 5th T20I was delayed due to rain. The rain-delayed game kicked off 50 mins late as South Africa won the toss, forcing India to bat first. Rains caused yet another delay after the completion of just 3.3 overs with players walking off the field, waiting for the skies to clear up. However, it continued to pour heavily in Bengaluru throughout the evening which led to the umpires calling the game off with both teams sharing the trophy. Following the washed-out game, Aakash Chopra was seen expressing his opinion demanding BCCI to invest in better facilities.
His tweet read as, “Indian cricket must invest in a couple of stadia with a retractable roof…with the quantum of broadcast monies flowing in, it’s imperative to take the weather out of the equation. As much as you can.”

The statements come after BCCI pocketed a jaw-dropping sum of 48,390.32 crores while selling the media rights of Indian Premier League for a 5-year period starting in 2023. Given the flux of income BCCI will receive , Chopra suggested that the money should be spent on stadiums and focusing on providing better facilities which would help in uplifting the fan experience.
Following the conclusion of the South Africa series, Team India is all set to feature in tournaments abroad. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play 2-T20I’s against Ireland before locking horns with England in all the three-formats of the game.
