Saurashtra has gone on to win Vijay Hazare Trophy for the second time after they defeated Maharashtra in the final on December 2 2022. Both teams locked horns at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as captain Jaydev Unadkat inspired the team to a title win.
The Unadkat-led side rode on the match-winning innings of Sheldon Jackson, who scored his century of just 116 balls and helped the team chase down the target. Saurashtra went on to record a wicket win with balls to spare and lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the second time.
Earlier in the game, The Saurashtra skipper made the right call at the toss, opting to bowl first. The 31-year-old led his team from the front, conceding just 25 runs in his ten overs. Chirag Jani supported Unadkat well and shined with the ball, taking a hattrick in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 final against Maharashtra. The fast-bowling allrounder took three wickets off consecutive balls in the 49th over of the first innings, helping his side restrict their opponents to 248 in 50 overs.
Saurashtra’s rise as a cricketing powerhouse has been nothing short of a fairy tale story. Their previous success in the Vijay Hazare Trophy came before IPL had begun, with players like Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara just beginning their careers in domestic cricket.
Before the Vijay Hazare trophy, Saurashtra found themselves to be unlucky in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. after suffering a last-over loss in the quarter-finals against Mumbai. However, they managed to get their record straight in the 50-over tournament by defeating white-ball giants like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra on their route to glory.
