Rohit Sharma Speaks On India’s Preparations Against Pakistan

India’s all format captain Rohit Sharma has been rested from the Men in Blue squad for the 3 match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The 35-year old’s next assignment will be the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022. India’s first match in the 6-nation tournament will see the Men in Blue square off against archrivals Pakistan in their tournament opener in Dubai.

Things didn’t go India’s way during their previous encounter with Pakistan as the Men in Blue were handed a comprehensive defeat in the T20 World Cup last year. The Men in Green recorded a 10 wicket win riding on a solid spell from left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi with the likes of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan shining with the bat.

Speaking on the upcoming clash against the sub continental rivals at the Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma has gone on to claim how the Indian team has adopted a different style of play now. The 35-year-old interacted with the reporters at the sidelines of a promotional event and was quoted saying, “We played Pakistan last year in Dubai, where obviously the result did not go our way. “

” But the team is playing differently now and has prepared differently, so a lot of things have changed from then. We need to assess the conditions, keep in mind the fact that we will be playing in 40-plus degrees (temperatures). We need to assess all those factors and prepare accordingly,” Rohit Sharma added.

The Indian captain also insisted that the opposition doesn’t matter with the focus currently being on playing well as a team. Rohit Sharma said, “My thought has always been that we will not focus on the opponent, but we will continue to play our game. We played against West Indies, England and in both cases, we did not think about who our opposition was, but we focused on things that we had to do as a team and what we had to achieve.”

He added, “Similarly, in the Asia Cup, our focus will be on what to achieve as a team and not think about who we are facing – be it Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka.”
