Pat Cummins Focused On Tests Series Against India

Australia captain Pat Cummins is focused on winning a Test series in India after his side registered a 10-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the first Test. The 29-year-old will be eager to seal the deal by winning the second Test at Galle. A series win would see Australia register their second straight red-ball series win in the subcontinent.

Australia recorded a 1-0 series win against Pakistan, back in March 2022. After that, they went on to win the first test against Sri Lanka and likely to win the 2nd Test as well. The final game of Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka will be played at the Galle stadium between 8th – 12th July.

The Australian Test skipper feels that the recent experience of playing in the subcontinent will help his team when they square off against India. Cummins’ focus is winning a red-ball series win in India and is hopeful that Australia will be prepared when they fly off to the subcontinent next year.

What did Cummins say? 

Australia are set to play a four-match series against the Men in Blue between February – March 2023 with the matches set to be a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Cummins’ was earlier quoted by Cricket Pakistan saying, “We’ve had Marnus (Labuschagne), Travis Head, Cam Green, Alex Carey (who all) haven’t played test matches in conditions that have spun this much.”

He added, “We have a big series next year in India, so this can really help develop and fast track our batters, if you want to be the number one Test team in the world you’ve got to be winning overseas.” Australia di not win a red ball Test series in India since 2004 – 05. The series win came under Adam Gilchrist who was captaining the team in the absence of regular skipper Ricky Ponting. Cummins is eyeing to replicate them and continue his spree of wins when the team flies to India.

The pacer has been excellent as a captain since taking charge of the team after Tim Paine took a indefinite break from cricket ahead of the 2021/22 Ashes. Cummins not only rose up to the challenge but also went on to record a massive 4-0 loss to England Down Under.

Australia have suffered from two back-to-back defeats against India in Test cricket when they hosted the Men in Blue down under. Pat Cummins and co will look get their revenge and record a test series win against India when they tour the subcontinent next time around.
