Nasser Hussain Reveals Indian Batters’ Weakness Amid Series Win

The Men in Blue went on to record their first ODI series in England since 2014 on Sunday. Despite their successful tour, former England star Nasser Hussain has spoken about the key areas of weakness amongst Indian batters. The ex-English captain spoke on visitors’ timidness at the top alongside their struggles against left-arm seamers.

The inability of Indian batsmen to take on left-arm speedsters was quite evident in the second ODI. The Men in Blue tasted a 100-run defeat at Lords with Reece Topley taking six wickets in that game. Nasser Hussain shared that the Indian contingent is “very strong” but must learn from their mistakes in the past. He also feels that the Men in Blue were “timid” in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup.

Check out what Nasser Hussain said

Speaking on Sony Sports Network after the 3rd ODI, Nasser Hussain was quoted saying, “India is a very strong team, but they need to learn from what happened in the past. In the last T20 World Cup in the UAE, they were a bit timid with the bat, so they need to stop being that. “

The 54-year-old went on to add that the top-order should not be timid, especially with Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja yet to bat. He added, “When you have Pandya and Pant in the middle order and then Jadeja that rope to follow, you don’t need to be timid at the top.”

The former England skipper went on to speak about India’s struggles against left-arm fast bowlers. Nasser Hussain opined, “They need to play the left arm (pacers) a little bit better. History tells you that Shaheen Shah Afridi blew them away one evening in Dubai. And Reece Topley has blown them away here (at Old Trafford).”

Hussain also shared his thoughts on India’s chance at the highly anticipated T20 World Cup in Australia. He said, “Their batting, Virat Kohli, will be fine. Once he is out of the break, he will be absolutely fine. They are positioned nicely. They just got to play ICC tournaments just like they play bilateral tournaments.”

Rohit Sharma’s men had successful outings in their recently concluded tour of England managing to win the T20I series and ODI series by a 2-1 margin. They will be eager to replicate such performances when they square off against West Indies in three ODIs and five T20Is.
