Lance Klusener has been named as the head coach of the RPSG Group-Owned Durban-based franchise in the Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) upcoming competition. The new T20 league is all set to take place between January-February 2023.
The first edition of the CSA’s competition has all the six franchises of the tournament being bought by current owners of the Indian Premier League teams. The RPSG group who own the Durban franchise, as well as the Lucknow Super Giants team released a statement on Lance Klusener’s announcement. It quoted the former South African all-rounder saying, “This is a new challenge for me. It makes me very proud. I am looking forward to meet the team.”

The 50-year-old has solid experience when it comes to coaching with the former Proteas’ star taking being the head coach of Afghanistan men’s team. Lance Klusener rejoined the Zimbabwe’s coaching staff earlier this year having previously worked with them as a batting coach between 2016 to 2018. He has also had various stints in franchise cricket having worked with teams like Mumbai Indians, Rajshahi Kings, Khulna Tigers and Bangla Tigers.
RPSG are the first group to make the announcement of a head coach for the upcoming South African League. The competition is all set to be run by CSA with Graeme Smith named as the chairman for the tournament and SuperSport announced as its the TV broadcasters.

The Durban based franchise is the second T20 team which has been brought by the RPSG group with the IPL’s Lucknow franchise being their previous acquisition in the last 12 months. While the Lucknow franchise owners have bought the Durban based team, fellow IPL rivals, Mumbai Indians owners have bought the Cape Town franchise.
Chennai Super Kings have been named as the new owners of the Johannesburg based franchise with Sunrisers Hyderabad owners buying the Gqeberha based team. The Paarl franchise was acquired by owners of Rajasthan Royals with Delhi Capitals owners acquiring the Pretoria based outfit.
