KL Rahul last featured in the Indian Premier League where he captained the Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs. He ended the tournament as the second-highest run-getter amassing 616 runs in 15 games. Later, the opener was handed the opportunity to captain India in a T20I series against South Africa with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli rested for Proteas’ tour.
However, Rahul was forced to miss the home T20Is against South Africa after suffering from “a right groin injury.” The 30-year-old has been out of action since then and also missed the recently concluded two-match T20I series against Ireland. In Rahul’s absence, Hardik Pandya was given the opportunity to lead India.

Citing KL Rahul’s sports hernia surgery, the usual timeframe for recovery for an athlete is quite long. He is rumored to remain unavailable for a period between 6 and 12 weeks. The 30-year-old is expected to be at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru where he will undergo proper therapy and rehabilitation before resuming cricketing activities.
The Indian opener has been a core member of the Indian cricket team in the last few years. He could also miss out on featuring in the upcoming Asia Cup. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on August 24 in Sri Lanka with the final set to take place on September 7.
