According to various reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to rest Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies. The Indian cricket board is yet to announce the squad for the upcoming matches having already shared the ODI squad earlier this month.
It is being reported by the Indian Express that Bumrah and Kohli will not be a part of the 5-match T20I series that sees India take on the Caribbean outfit. The T20I series will follow up 3-match ODI series and will be played in the West Indies as well as the USA. Reports further add that spinner Kuldeep Yadav is expected to make a comeback to the Indian team for the T20I’s after recovering from his finger injury.
Earlier, Virat Kohli was reported to ask BCCI to consider him unavailable for the T20I matches. It raised quite a few eyebrows as the Indian batter has not been at his best over the last few outings. His performance has been a matter of concern for a long time with Kohli’s last century coming in November 2019.

Kohli failed to deliver during India’s ongoing tour to England with the star batter scoring just 31 runs in the one-off Test while amassing 12 runs in two T20I outings. He is yet to feature in the ODI series having missed out from the first game due to a groin injury.
Kohli’s recent form has seen his position in the Indian starting XI being questioned. However, the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee is said to believe in the 33-year-old and will continue to support him. The former Indian captain is expected to be a key part of Indian team plans for the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup.
Bumrah, on the other hand has been a vital cog for the Men in Blue. He has been playing constantly and is likely to be rested with the Indian think tank looking to manage his work load. Bumrah’s absence will not burn a big hole in the Indian bowling, with Rohit Sharma having a plethora of options available at his disposal.
The Indian squad also has a few more series to play before the T20 World Cup. So resting key players while giving their bench an opportunity to impress could work well for Rahul Dravid and co.
