James Anderson Shocked With England’s New Approach

James Anderson has spoken how there is something unique about the current team environment. The 39-year-old has gone on to share about the exciting set up he is a part of with the Test team under the new captaincy of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

Anderson has played over 171 Test matches featuring under six head coaches and eight Test captains over the course of 20 years. He was also a part of the English team that registered a whitewash series win against New Zealand. Amid their 3-0 series win, the Three Lions registered three successful chases, which included them scoring 299 in just 50 overs at Trent Bridge.  Speaking about the new aggressive mindset the team has adopted, Anderson feels the new era will truly be something special.

The 39-year-old was quoted by ESPNCricinfo saying, “I have never been in a dressing-room before when we have chased 300 (299) on a pitch that is turning and everyone being so calm, believing we were going to chase them down. That for me, after 20 years of playing international cricket, I had never seen before.”

He added, “You always get a few jittery people but one to 11 and the staff included were just calm and believed. I think that belief can go such a long way, especially with the young players we have got. We’re trying to develop their confidence and experience; I think that will do wonders for them.”

After clinching 3-0 won against the Kiwis, the Three Lions gear up to replicate such performances in a one-off Test match against India. James Anderson was ruled out of the last Test match against the Black Caps. He is racing time to get fit for the Indian game. The 39-year-old was revealed that he dislikes missing games. Anderson also spoke on his availability of playing against India in the fifth rescheduled Test.

Daily Mail UK has quoted the veteran pacer saying, “I hate missing games. After that game at Headingley, the feeling around the group is so good that you want to be around it as much as possible. I certainly feel I’ve got more of a smile on my face in the field than I normally do. It’s so much fun playing with this group in the style we have been.”
