Former India captain Virat Kohli’s latest comment on his mental health pushed the 33-year-old into limelight. In a recent interview, the Delhi based batter stated how he felt alone in a room despite being surrounded by people who admire him.
The Indian Express had quoted the former India skipper saying, “I personally have experienced times when even in a room full of people who support and love me, I felt alone, and I am sure that this is a feeling that a lot of people can relate to. So, take out time for yourself and reconnect with your core self.”
Virat Kohli’s manager, Bunty Sajdeh opened up on the situation. He shed light on the 33-year-old’s remark and admitted that the cricketer had mental challenges. However, he goes on to claim how it’s not correct to use a serious term like ‘depression’ so loosely.
Speaking with Times of India, Virat’s Virat Kohli’s manager said, “The representation of a severe condition like depression is very well understood by Virat. He’s spoken openly on the mental challenges of playing the sport at the highest level and he hasn’t shied away from admitting them. Having said that, he’s mentioned that he’s experienced mental challenges at only a certain stage in his career.”
The middle order batter has constantly struggled to get going with the bat over the last 3 years with his poor form possibly contributing to his emotional state. The Indian star has not scored a century in any format since 2019. While Virat spoke about the struggles, Bunty Sajdeh clarified, “Virat for one will never feel alone when he’s around people who love and support him. That’s where he has got his mental strength from.”
