Bhuvneshwar Kumar stole the show in the recently concluded T-20I matches against the Proteas. The Indian pacer was on point throughout the tournament and ended up walking away with the player of the series award after the conclusion of the 5 T20Is’.
It was the fourth instance when Kumar was rewarded with the ‘player of the series award’ in any international series and is now the Indian speedster to have won the player of the series the most, overtaking the likes of Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma, with the duo winning it thrice.
Kumar first won the player of the series award back in 2013 for his antics against Sri Lanka and West Indies before winning it again in 2014 for his solid outing against England in Tests. His third player of the series came against South Africa in 2018 with the latest one coming against the Proteas too.

The 32 year old was in the running for the highest wicket taker of the tournament despite bowling in only 4 innings after the 5th T20I was washed out due to heavy rains in Bengaluru. He ended up with 6 wickets against his tally which also included a four-fer from the second T20I in Cuttack.

The 32-year-old speedster was the most impressive pacer of the Indian contingent delivering top class performances upon his return to the national set up. He managed to register economical spells despite being called upon in the powerplay overs, conceding a mere 85 runs from 14 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the bowling attack very well in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and kept the Proteas batting lineup on edge. His ability to give the a strong economical start while stopping the opposition batters from taking advantage of the powerplay caught quite a few eye balls.
Following his success against South Africa, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been rewarded with vice-captaincy for India’s upcoming tour to Ireland with Hardik Pandya captaining the side. Given the swinging conditions in England, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to shine one again and play a crucial role in the limited-overs series.
His constant rise in performances will be closely followed upon by national team head coach Rahul Dravid with the former Indian skipper looking to settle down his players for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup. The ICC organized event is all set to be played in Australia starting in October and with India set to play more than 10 T20I’s ahead of the main event. It remains interesting to see if the 32 year old can continue performing on the top level in and fight for a spot in the playing XI upon the return of senior stars ahead of the World Cup.
