Punjab Kings (PBKS) have made a heap of changes ahead of IPL 2023 auction, with the major one seeing the franchise releasing several big names, which includes former skipper Mayank Agarwal. Shikhar Dhawan has been handed the captaincy, with the team also boasting a new coach in Trevor Bayliss. PBKS finished 6th on IPL 2022 points table, recording seven wins and seven losses but failed to reach the playoffs.

With a massive purse of INR 32.2 crore and nine slots to fill, Punjab Kings have decent resources to fill the gaps in their squad and sign some quality players. They have a core of Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, and Arshdeep Singh, which is a strong team on paper. With one of the biggest purses, Punjab Kings will look to make a few solid signings and boost their team at the upcoming IPL 2023 auction.

Sam Curran

West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith was released by Punjab Kings, leaving the team in dire need of a bowling all-rounder. There is no better option available other than Sam Curran at the upcoming IPL auction. Curran has previously featured played for Punjab Kings, and the Dhawan-led side will be eager to re-sign their former player.

They have the resources to buy him with INR 32.20 crore in their kitty. However, they could face some competition for the English all-rounder. The 24-year-old was the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He is not only effective with the bat but also solid with the new ball, as well as in the death overs. Curran is most likely going to be one of the most expensive players at the IPL 2023 auction, which will take place in December.

Narayan Jagadeesan

Punjab Kings badly need a solid quality Indian opener after they let Mayank Agarwal go ahead of IPL 2023 auction. They will be eager to sign up Narayan Jagadeesan after the opener was released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), citing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway’s presence.

In terms of Indian openers, there is no better option available than Narayan Jagadeesan in the IPL 2023 auction pool. The Tamil Nadu batter is undoubtedly one of the hottest properties, as he averaged 138.33 while scoring 830 runs in just eight innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The right-handed batter will also allow the team to field an overseas player to the team, making him a must-have asset citing his red-hot form at the moment. While Jagadeesan will cost teams a ton of money, Punjab Kings boast the financial muscle and can go all the way to sign him.

Mayank Markande

The 25-year-old was excellent in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, as he went on to claim 12 wickets in 10 matches while maintaining an economy rate of 7.30. Mayank Markande was released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2023 auction and could be eyed by Punjab Kings in Kochi.

The Punjab-based franchise has Rahul Chahar as their main leg-spinner but lacks a quality backup. Markande, who hails from Punjab, has enough experience playing in the home conditions.
