IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players Chennai Super Kings Could Bid For

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a season to forget during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with the team finishing 9th place on the points table. The four-time IPL champions managed only four wins in 14 league matches in what was their worst-ever season. The MS Dhoni-led side will be looking for a turnaround in their fortunes and have already started to make a ton of changes ahead of the upcoming edition.

CSK released a ton of players ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, which includes the likes of Narayan Jagadeesan, Adam Milne, as well as Chris Jordan. Old warhorses Dwayne Bravo and Robin Uthappa will also not be in the team, with both players retiring from IPL ahead of the next season.

Heading into the IPL 2023 auction with a core of MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali, Chennai Super Kings have a purse of INR 20.45 crore. They only have two overseas slots left to fill out of the remaining seven as we look at a few players CSK will look to bid for and boost their squad in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction.

Chennai Super Kings IPL 2023 Auction: Top Picks

Sam Curran

Chennai Super Kings will be looking for a fast bowling all-rounder after releasing Dwayne Bravo ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. The 24-year-old will be the perfect fit in CSK’s playing XI. He has featured for CSK in 2020 and 2021, playing 23 games for the side, scoring 242 runs while picking up two wickets.

Curran has already produced top-level performances with the bat as well as the ball, and CSK could well make a run behind him in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction. The Englishman was the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and will surely be a player to be the one to grab the most money in the upcoming auction.

Mayank Agarwal

Former Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal was released ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. CSK could look to sign the Karnataka opener as the 31-year-old provides a good option who can also slot in the middle order. With Robin Uthappa retiring, having someone like Mayank Agarwal in the team will also allow CSK to have a top order.

While Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad will open the innings, Mayank can slot in at No. 3 while Moeen Ali walks in at number 4. Playing for a team that will provide consistent chances will do a lot of good for Agarwal. Also, with Dhoni on the fag end of his career and Ravindra Jadeja opting against being a captaincy option, the former Punjab Kings star can also be a backup captaincy option.

Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey was released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the IPL 2023 auction after the middle-order batter managed to score just 88 runs in 6 matches last year. However, the right-handed batsman has been in excellent touch just before IPL 2023 auction, scoring 247 runs during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022.

He averages 61.75 in the Indian domestic competition, which could see CSK opt to acquire Manish Pandey’s services. Pandey will also be available for a reasonable price, and CSK will be very happy to have a dependable solid Indian middle-order batter in the mix. He is also the perfect candidate who will act as a good replacement for Robin Uthappa.
