India found themselves slotted at the fourth position before the first ODI with 105 points against their name. However, a win over Jos Buttler’s side earned India 3 crucial points, propelling them to a slot above their arch-rivals. The Men in Blue now sit with 108 points, overtaking Pakistan who have 106 points against their tally. They will be eager to catch upto New Zealand with the Kiwis slotted at the top of the table. England, on the other hand, find themselves above India in second place with 122 points against their name.
The visitors relied on the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah as England recorded their lowest ODI score against the Men in Blue. The Mumbai Indians speedster claimed his career best figures of 6/19 while Mohammad Shami took three wickets in the first innings. England managed to get a below par score of 110 inside 25 overs before being bundled out.

The Indian skipper joined hands with Shikhar Dhawan in the second innings as they completed the task at hand with ease. The duo played with great comfort which saw Sharma remain unbeaten at 78 from 58 deliveries. Dhawan, on the other hand, was cautious in his approach and played the anchor role, scoring 31 from 54 balls. The English bowlers failed to claim a single wicket as the visitors chased down the target within 19 overs to record a massive win.
The Men in Blue will be eager to replicate such similar performances in the remaining ODIs against the Three Lions. Following the tour of England, India is all set to square off against the West Indies in a three-match ODI series. The Rohit Sharma-led side will look to maintain their positive run of results and put pressure on other teams in the ICC ODI rankings. Pakistan too will look to be in the mix with the Men in Green scheduled to take on Netherlands in August.
