Harshal Patel made some strong statements ahead of India’s 4th T20I against South Africa. The Indian seamer spoke about his variations, and the pitches, as Rishabh Pant and Co look to go level in the 5-matches series. Speaking with the media on the eve of the 4th T20I, Patel was quoted by the Indian Express saying, “People have been trying to anticipate me for the past two years. To be very honest, with every bowler, the longer they play, the more the opposition will realize what their strengths are, what the patterns are, and try to adapt to it.

He went on to add, “But as a bowler, my job is to stay one step ahead of batters. At the end of the day, you can have 15 different plans, but on a particular day, in a pressure situation, if you don’t go out and execute with confidence, everything doesn’t really fall in place. My focus has always been on how to read the game better in that particular moment and how to execute the best possible delivery at that point in time.”
The RCB star has been a vital part of the Indian team hosting the Proteas. He featured in all three games while playing a crucial role in India’s win in the last T-20 International. Patel walked away with four wickets while conceding 25 runs in that clash. He is also the joint highest wicket-taker of the series alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar with six wickets against his name.

The Indian death specialist also spoke about the different kinds of pitches India played on in the ongoing tournament. He shared how it is crucial for the team to play in different conditions and adjust themselves accordingly.
“I would certainly prefer playing on slower pitches because it allows you a bit of fighting chance. We also have world-class spinners in the team, who can bowl well on any pitch, but it does bring them a little more into the game when we have slightly slower pitches and slightly bigger ground dimensions.”
Patel will be keen on continuing his solid form with the highly anticipated ICC T-20 World Cup in sight. He would have to keep up with such performances to impress head coach Rahul Dravid in the remaining two clashes and retain his spot in the Playing XI during India’s upcoming tour to Ireland, later this month.
