The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) has announced Joy Bhattacharjya as their new director general. The self-regulatory industry body is all set to have the CEO of the Prime Volleyball League oversee their functioning while coordinating with industry stakeholders and policymakers.
Previously known as the Indian Federation of Sports Gaming(IFSG) , the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports was established with the viewpoint of creating standardized best practices as well as protecting consumer interest in the Fantasy Sports industry. Bhattacharjya heads into the new role coming off a vast amount of experience in his kitty. He has worked as a cricket analyst and was also involved in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017, working as project director for AIFF.
Earlier, he worked with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders holding the position of team director. He has also worked with History and National Geographic channels in South Asia as head of programming while also being employed at ESPN Star Sports as head of production.
Bhattacharjya was quoted upon his appointment as the new director general of Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports. He said, “I am happy to be a part of the next stage of development of fantasy sports in the country. It’s a homecoming for me in a way, from launching the Super Selector in 2000, to now leading FIFS.”
Chairman of Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports, Bimal Julka, also shared his thoughts on the same. He was quoted saying, “We are happy to have Bhattacharjya join FIFS as the director-general. FIFS will benefit from his sports expertise and knowledge of fantasy sports.”

Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports, incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 is a Section 8 company. The whole purpose of FIFS is promotion and self-regulation in online fantasy sports services and contests across the country.
The online fantasy sports services is a booming market in India with the global fantasy sports market size said to increase by $6.11 billion between 2021 and 2026. According to Technavio, the CAGR is said to expand at the rate of 6.51% during the above mentioned period.
The fantasy sports market is riding a wave of following due to the growth of the mobile gaming industry across the world. Availability of low-cost smartphones across countries like China and Mexico has heavily affected the growth of the mobile gaming industry in the last few years. It has also seen the launch of various fantasy sports apps in India.
