Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis has been named in the list for the upcoming new Big Bash League (BBL) overseas draft. The current Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain has been announced in the first batch of nominees as one of the four overseas players.

The 37-year-old has featured only in one Big Bash League game, with his appearance coming way back in 2012. The former SA skipper played at the Docklands Stadium, featuring for Melbourne Renegades under the captaincy of Aaron Finch.Â
Faf du Plessis’ nomination in the overseas draft indicates that he will remain available for some part of the upcoming BBL campaign. The draft format requires overseas players to nominate themselves in their price category. There are 4 price categories namely platinum, gold, silver & bronze. The 37-year-old is rumored to be placed in the platinum category during the BBL draft which is scheduled to take place in August.
With Faf du Plessis likely to find himself in the platinum category, the South African is expected to earn a salary of $AUD340,000. Apart from Du Plessis, fellow countrymen Rossouw was also announced as one of the overseas BBL draft nominees. The SA batter has featured in over 7 BBL matches for the Melbourne Renegades during his stint in the Australian domestic competition back in 2020-21.

Namibia all-rounder David Wiese also joins the South African duo for overseas draft. Despite not having played in BBL, Wiese boasts a lot of experience with T20 cricket having featured in various tournaments like CPL, Vitality Blast, PSL and the Hundred as well.
Somerset pacer Marchant de Lange completes the list of the first overseas batch of nominees for the BBL 12 draft. De Lange too will be making his Big Bash League debut this time around. He last international cricket appearance came in 2016 and since then he has continued to play in English domestic cricket.
The BBL is set to run from mid-December until the end of January.
