Former England skipper Eoin Morgan shared his thoughts on The Hundred with the second edition of the English domestic competition kick starting on Wednesday. The 35-year-old spoke how the tournament is a great opportunity for players to showcase their talent against few of the best players in the world. He goes on to add that the high standard of the competition will help cricketers stake a claim in the national squads of their international team.
Morgan has been extremely vocal about The Hundred and been a major advocate of the competition. He claims that the tournament has helped a lot to ‘fine-tune’ England’s white ball team. The 35-year-old, who recently retired from international cricket will to return to action and lead London Spirit in The Hundred 2022. Eoin Morgan has also said that playing in the domestic league is very close to playing at the international level.
Speaking with Sky Sports, the recently retired England international said, “It is the closest I have ever played at the domestic level to international cricket. The Hundred is as good a stake as anybody can make to try and get into that final 15. “ Eoin Morgan added, “If the English white-ball head coach (Matthew Mott) says there is, then there definitely is, so that is a huge incentive for the younger batter, bowler, and fielder coming through to try and make his way into that World Cup team.”

The 35-year-old also went on to speak on Jason Roy and his inability to score runs in the recently concluded white ball series against India as well as South Africa. Eoin Morgan also shared how the batter boosts the capability to take on any bowling lineup while adding how The Hundred is a great opportunity for him to regain his form.
He added, “Anybody who has tracked Jason Roy’s career in international cricket has seen the highs and lows of Jason but the one thing you get with him is that when he is on song, he can take any bowling line up down and that sends a huge message not only to the opposition but to your changing room when you are in it, So, The Hundred is just an opportunity for him to go score runs.”
The Hundred 2022 will kick off with defending champions Southern Brave taking on Welsh Fire in the season opener. The first match of the second edition of the tournament will be played at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Following the conclusion of the tournament, the English team is all set to tour Pakistan for 7 T20Is before heading to Australia for the ICC T20 World Cup.
