England red-ball coach Brendon McCullum has shared his thoughts on ‘Bazball’ after the term started gaining popularity in the last few months. The new fearless and positive approach that the Three Lions have adopted in Test cricket has been coined as ‘Bazball’ by cricket enthusiasts. The former NZ skipper has claimed that there is no need to give the term any undue importance.
The Three Lions have gone one to win every Test game since the appointment of Ben Stokes as the new Test captain with Brendon McCullum as the new coach. England registered a massive 3-0 win against New Zealand at home. They whitewashed the Kiwis before registering a seven wicket win against India in the rescheduled fifth Test match. The Edgbaston game also saw them record the highest-ever chase in Test cricket history.
Speaking with Adam Gilchrist on SEN WA Breakfast, McCullum was said, “No, I don’t have any idea what Bazball is, having a bit of a go, but the boys have been fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for a better start really. I’m sure that our guys will try and still maintain a really positive approach. I think the real key is not just the crash and burn if we look at the approach of how the guys have done it.”
He added,“That’s why I don’t really like that silly term that people are throwing out there, because there’s actually quite a bit of thought that goes into how the guys manufacture their performances and when they put pressure on bowlers and which bowlers they put pressure on.”

Brendon McCullum also responded to comments made by Steve Smith after the Australian questioned the English batters’ potential. The 33-year-old asked if the ‘Bazball’ tactic will work against the Baggy greens’ lethal bowling unit.
The Aussie batter had also asked if the English batsman can replicate such performances when they play away from home. Responding to the questions posed by Smith, Brendon McCullum admitted that it would be a big challenge to play with a fearless approach against Australia.
The English Test team coach said, “I saw those (comments) flick up on one of the feeds somewhere. It’s quite right, it is going to be a big challenge when we take on Australia. It’s going to challenge our method and it’s going to challenge what we’re capable of achieving and that’s pretty exciting I reckon. Isn’t that what the game’s all about? Is to sort of reinvigorate yourself and then be confronted against the very best.”
