The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come into question after the Indian contingent traveled from Manchester to Port of Spain. Earlier, the Men in Blue were in England for their white ball series where they played 3 T20Is and ODIs. They had to travel directly to the West Indies from England for their upcoming tour white ball series.

It is being reported that BCCI spent a whopping INR 3.5 crores for the flight to the Caribbean. The Indian cricket board booked a chartered flight for its players who were traveling from England to the West Indies. The Men in Blue contingent consists of 16 players alongside the head coach Rahul Dravid who were traveling to the Caribbean for the white-ball matches.
A BCCI official was seen explaining the boardās decision to charter a flight. He shared how the number of people traveling to the West Indies included not only the support staff but a few playersā wives as well. The unnamed source was quoted by Times of India saying, āThe BCCI spent Rs 3.5 crore on the chartered flight which took Team India from Manchester on Tuesday afternoon to Port of Spain (the capital of Trinidad and Tobago) by 11.30 pm IST.”

āThe reason a chartered flight was booked for the team was not Covid-19. Itās difficult to book so many tickets on a commercial flight-the Indian contingent includes 16 players and members of the support staff, including head coach Rahul Dravid. There are playersā wives who have traveled to the Caribbean too,ā the unnamed source added.
The BCCI official goes on to further say, āNormally, in a commercial flight, this expense wouldāve been around Rs 2 crore. A business class ticket from Manchester to Port of Spain would be around Rs 2 lakh. A chartered flight is more expensive, but itās a logical option to take. Most top football teams have a charter now.ā
The Men In Blue are set to square off against the West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting 22 July. The ODI series will be followed up with five T20Is with the first 3 played in the Caribbean and the remaining two in the USA.
India has decided to playĀ a lot of fringe players in the ODI games. BCCI’s all format captain Rohit Sharma has been rested for the series alongside with some other first-choice players. Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been named the captain for the 50 over games with Ravindra Jadeja his deputy.
