Chandrakant Pandit has been the talk of the town after he won his sixth Ranji Trophy win last Sunday. The former wicket keeper-batter became the center of attention after Madhya Pradesh lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy title at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He has earlier led Mumbai three times and Vidarbha twice to the pinnacle in domestic cricket before his stint with Madhya Pradesh.
Pandit has always been an influential figure in the domestic circuit. He was recently asked about working in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 60-year-old responded to the query by sharing how he could land a coaching role with IPL franchises if he makes a few calls.
The former Indian cricketer was quoted by PTI saying, “Agar phone karunga, toh kuch mil jayega par who mera style kabi thaa nahi (If I call (any IPL teams), I will get something but that’s not my style).”

Pandit also went on to recall his meeting with Kolkata Knight Riders’ owner Shahrukh Khan back in 2012. The 60-year-old revealed how he was approached to undertake a coaching role with the team, which he rejected as he did not want to work under a foreign coach.
Hindustan Times has quoted Pandit saying, “I met Mr. Shah Rukh Khan back then, but somehow I couldn’t bring myself to work under a foreign coach.” KKR went on to win their first ever IPL title in 2012 under former Australian head coach Trevor Bayliss.
Earlier, Pandit spoke about how the Ranji Trophy win with Madhya Pradesh will be more memorable than any other title triumphs. The former Indian cricketer was captain of the Madhya Pradesh side in the 1999 Ranji final. He failed to lead them to the title triumph back then as Karnataka went on to win that clash.
After 23 years , Pandit got his redemption as he coached Madhya Pradesh to their maiden Ranji Trophy title. Coincidently the 1999 Ranji trophy final was also played at at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Pandit coached Madhya Pradesh to their 1st Ranji title at the same venue.
Speaking about it, Pandit said, “Every trophy gives satisfaction but this one is special. I couldn’t do it as an MP captain years back (23 years). All these years, I have always felt that I had left something back over here. That’s the reason I am a bit more excited and emotional about it,”
