Chahal steals the show as India makes comeback against SA

Rishabh Pant’s men managed to bounce back on the winning ways by registering a much needed 48-run win over the Proteas in Visakhapatnam. The Indian bowlers rose to the occasion, getting rid of the South African batting order for just 131 after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan slammed half centuries helping India to a solid score of 179.

Despite Harshal Patel claiming four wickets, Indian leggie Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged Man of the Match for his fantastic spell against the Proteas.

The 31-year-old spinner got rid of Van Der Dussen in his first over before sending Dwaine Pretorius back to the hut in his second. He also managed to bowl an economic spell conceding just 20 runs off his full quota, ending up with three wickets while also taking a couple of catches in the deep.

Following the Men in Blue’s solid comeback in the series, Chahal was awarded with the Player of the Match award. The Indian spinner did not shy away from sharing his thoughts on changes he made to his bowling for the recent game. He was quoted saying, “I was bowling too quick and sliders in the last game. I spoke to Paras sir and coaches about it. So I tried to bowl quick leg breaks but with a different seam position today. I want to turn and dip the ball, but I couldn’t do it the last time so they were able to hit through the line. I tried to get some turn and change the line of the ball.

I was trying to bowl to my strengths today. When you get middle-order batsmen out in the middle overs, the pressure is on them. Batsmen try a lot of sweeps and reverse sweeps these days so we have to be prepared for that too, as bowlers. In the last game too there was some help for spinners but I didn’t bowl that well.”

Chahal seems to be back to his brilliant best after two poor outings during South Africa’s tour in India. The IPL 2022 Purple Cap holder has managed to lead the spin attack for India in the ongoing series and turned himself into a vital cog in the national team set-up. With the ICC T-20 World Cup looming around his head, Rahul Dravid would like to have India’s premier spinner on the top of his game. Chahal on the other hand will be keen on maintaining his current form and helping Pant and co clinch the series.
