The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction will take place on December 23 in Kochi. While 405 players will go under the hammer, one player from Afghanistan is all set to grab headlines with his skills. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar is expected to take the IPL 2023 auction by storm, with teams getting into a bidding war for the young spinner.
Ghazanfar could become the youngest player to feature in IPL, with the 15-year-old (YES, you read it right) likely to get a contract in India’s franchise-based T20 competition. The youngster has registered for the highly anticipated IPL 2023 auction and will be eager to get picked for a team after he failed to find any takers during the Big Bash League 2022 auction.
Hailing from Paktia province, Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar’s starting value sits at the base prize of 20 Lakh. The Afghanistan national stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and has a bowling action which is quite similar to fellow countryman Mujeeb Zadran.

However, Ghazanfar claims to be inspired by India’s Ravichandran Ashwin. He was quoted by Sportstar saying, “Ashwin has been a champion spinner for India, and I like his variations. I have always considered him my inspiration.”
The Afghani star spoke about his starting days in cricket. Starting off as a pacer, he soon switched to bowling spin under the guidance of a coach and developed an action. The right-arm off-spinner also spoke about his aspirations sharing how he wants to play for Afghanistan. He adds how IPL will help in improving his game as he would be able to learn quite a few things from various Indian as well as overseas players.
Despite not being well versed in Hindi, the youngster remains confident of faring well in IPL and locking horns with players he hasn’t faced before.
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are on the lookout for a good backup when it comes to spin bowling. Either of the two teams could look to sign the young talent. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar will also be eager to play for an IPL team, as all 10 franchises in the tournament have world-class coaches at their disposal. IPL is a solid platform for grooming talent, and Ghazanfar could look at the competition as an opportunity to take his game to the next level.
