Australia have been affected with yet another injury news as Travis Head is ruled out from playing in the final One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka. The middle order batter suffered from a hamstring injury and will not feature at Colombo.
Speaking about Head’s injury Aaron Finch was quoted saying, “[It’s a] bit more of a precaution. Especially, where he fields in the outfield, he does quite a lot of kilometres and the ground is quite heavy. Not sure what he’s looking like for the Test matches.”
Not ideal for the Australia camp just six days out from the start of the first #WTC23 Test against Sri Lanka.

Apart from Head, Mitchell Starc will also not be available for the 5th ODI clash. The speedster continues to heal on the sidelines after he cut his finger on the spike of his boot during the first T20I. Finch, who spoke with the media ahead of the 5th ODI said, “Just one more to add to the list at the moment. Starcy is still not right with his finger. Where it is, the stitching is still not quite 100% healed. Without being able to bowl without tape on, he’ll be out as well.”
Australia boasts a long casualty list with quite a few players injured during their white-ball matches against Sri Lanka. While Sean Abbott was ruled out before the tour began, the likes of Kane Richardson, Marcus Stoinis, and Ashton Agar have been spending their time in Sri Lanka nursing injuries. Mitchell Marsh also suffered from an injury in his calf strain and has recovered from it with Steve Smith is also nursing a quad strain ahead of the 5th ODI.

The injury to Head is a major matter of concern for the Australian team especially with the Test series round the corner. He has a mere six days to recover before Sri Lanka host the Aussies at Galle for the first Test. If Head fails to recover in time for the test, the tourists will be forced to make changes in their batting order.
The tourists opt to rope in either Josh Inglis or Marsh into the playing XI. Glenn Maxwell could also be tried once again in Test cricket given his spin playing ability. Another option for them would be to call up the likes of Matthew Renshaw, Marcus Harris, and Nic Maddinson. The trio are also currently in Sri Lanka touring with the Australia A squad and have completed their tour.
